Understand Health and Wellness Data in Looki

Learn how Looki handles optional Apple Health and Health Connect data, along with wellness observations created from Looki content.

Health and wellness information can add useful context to your day, but you should always know where that information comes from and how Looki uses it.

Looki can work with two different types of wellness information. The first is data you choose to share from Apple Health or Health Connect. The second is general wellness observations Looki may create from the photos, videos, and other content you choose to process. These two types of information work differently, so this article explains each one.

Connecting Apple Health or Health Connect is optional

You do not need to connect Apple Health or Health Connect to use Looki. The connection is off by default, and Looki cannot access information from either service unless you connect it and give permission.

You choose which types of information Looki can read. Depending on the permissions you select, this may include:

  • Steps and walking or running distance
  • Active energy or calories
  • Workouts and exercise sessions
  • Heart rate, resting heart rate, and heart rate variability
  • Sleep duration and sleep stages
  • Height and weight

Looki may also receive details such as the date, time, and source of a record. These details help organize the information and avoid counting the same activity more than once.

You do not have to share every category. You can review or change your permissions through Apple Health, Health Connect, or your phone's settings. If you withdraw permission, Looki stops collecting new data from that connection.

Looki only asks for read access

When you connect a health platform, Looki requests read-only access to the information you approve. Looki can read the selected records, but it does not change your original health records or add new entries to Apple Health or Health Connect.

How connected health data may be used

A single number rarely explains an entire day. A lower step count might mean you worked at a desk, traveled, stayed inside because of the weather, or changed your usual routine. Sleep information can also be easier to understand when you can see what happened during the day.

If you choose to share health data, Looki may combine it with context from Looki L1 to help you notice possible patterns. For example, you might notice that your activity changes on certain days or that a routine often appears around a change in sleep.

These observations can help you reflect on your habits, but they do not prove that one activity caused a specific health result.

Wellness observations from Looki content

Looki may also create general wellness observations from content you choose to process. For example, Looki may recognize signs of exercise or make general observations about food, vegetables, or protein shown in captured images.

This feature is separate from Apple Health and Health Connect. It may work even if you have not connected either health platform.

The Looki L1 device captures the photos, video, audio, and related details. The wellness analysis itself takes place in Looki's cloud and may involve authorized AI providers. It does not happen on the Looki L1 device.

Looki analyzes the submitted content to create the final observation. Intermediate analysis is not saved as a separate record. Only the summary or observation shown to you is saved to your account.

Depending on the feature, the result may appear in an Insight, Moment, Journal entry, Memory, or other Looki content. It may remain in your account until you delete it or close your account.

Wellness information is not medical advice

Health and wellness information from Looki is provided for general information and personal reflection. It is not medical advice, a diagnosis, or treatment.

Do not use Looki to make urgent medical decisions or as a replacement for a qualified healthcare professional. If you are concerned about a health measurement or notice new or worsening symptoms, contact an appropriate medical professional.

What Looki does not do with health information

Looki's privacy and data security approach places additional limits on health and wellness information. Looki does not:

  • Sell health data
  • Use health data for advertising or marketing
  • Use health data for insurance, credit, or employment decisions
  • Use raw or identifiable health information to train general-purpose AI models

Authorized service providers may process health information only when needed to host or operate the feature you chose to use. They must follow Looki's instructions and cannot use the information for their own purposes or model training.

Wellness observations created from your content are not intended for medical diagnosis or for decisions about insurance, credit, or employment.

You can change your permissions

Connecting health data is your choice. You can review the categories you have approved, turn off individual permissions, or disconnect Apple Health or Health Connect through the relevant platform or your phone's settings.

It is a good idea to review these permissions after updating the Looki App, changing phones, or turning on a new feature.
