How Looki Works With Service Providers

Learn why Looki works with specialized service providers, the roles they support, and the boundaries applied to personal information.

Personal AI products rely on several services working together. A company that delivers your order does not need the same information as a cloud provider or an AI provider. Each one supports a different part of the Looki experience.

This article explains why Looki works with service providers, what information they may handle, and the limits we place on how they can use it.

Looki does not sell your personal information. We share information with service providers only when they need it to deliver a Looki feature or support our business.

Why Looki works with service providers

Looki uses specialized providers for services such as:

  • Processing payments and transactions
  • Shipping and delivering products
  • Hosting data in the cloud
  • Providing location-based features
  • Sending emails and customer communications
  • Protecting Looki against security threats and fraud
  • Measuring how well the service works
  • Powering certain AI features

Each provider receives only the information needed for its role. For example, a shipping company may need your name and delivery address. A cloud provider may process the information needed to store account content and keep Looki running.

How Looki works with AI providers

Looki currently uses AI services from OpenAI and Google, including Gemini, for certain features that understand or generate content.

Not every request goes to every provider. The provider and information involved depend on the feature you use and the minimum amount of content needed to make that feature work. Depending on the feature, this may include selected images, video or audio clips, prompts, related context, and the response created by the AI.

When you use a cloud-based AI feature, Looki and its authorized AI providers may temporarily decrypt the content needed to provide that feature. Your content is used only to deliver the feature you requested.

Looki does not allow its AI providers to use your personal content to train their general-purpose AI models. The production AI services currently used by Looki also have the applicable zero-training and zero-data-retention settings turned on.

This means an AI provider may process your content to return a result to you, but it cannot turn your personal photos, videos, conversations, or daily experiences into training material for a model used by the general public.

Where Looki account data is stored

For users in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, Looki account data is primarily stored in Frankfurt, Germany.

For users in the United States and countries where Looki does not have a dedicated regional cloud, account data is primarily stored in Oregon, United States.

Looki does not currently have a dedicated cloud region in Vietnam or elsewhere in Asia. Data associated with accounts in Vietnam is therefore primarily stored in Oregon.

For the current setup, Looki selects AI service endpoints that generally match the account's Looki cloud region. The exact location may still depend on the AI product and configuration used for a particular feature.

Processing information is not the same as selling it

Privacy policies use words such as share, disclose, process, and sell. These words can have different legal meanings, which can make them confusing.

A provider processes information when it handles that information on Looki's behalf. For example, a payment provider processes transaction details, and an AI provider processes the content needed to return an AI result. This does not mean that the provider bought the information or can use it for its own purposes.

Looki does not sell personal information. Depending on the situation, Looki may disclose limited information to:

  • Looki's parent company and affiliates that support its operations
  • Providers that operate or protect Looki services
  • Authorized AI providers
  • Lawyers, auditors, bankers, insurers, and other professional advisers
  • Law enforcement or government authorities when required or permitted by law
  • People or organizations directly involved in a specific legal, security, fraud-prevention, or rights-protection matter
  • Participants in a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or similar business transaction

The phrase "other parties" does not mean advertisers, data brokers, unrelated business partners, or companies looking for user information for their own marketing. Any legal or security disclosure is limited to information Looki reasonably believes is necessary, appropriate, and allowed by law for the specific matter.

These situations involve different types of information and different reasons for sharing it. The Looki Privacy Policy provides the current list of disclosures and recipient categories.

Extra limits for health and wellness information

Health and wellness information receives additional protection. Looki does not sell health data or use it for advertising, marketing, insurance, credit, employment decisions, or training general-purpose AI models.

A contracted provider may process health data only when needed to host or operate the feature you chose to use. The provider must follow Looki's instructions and cannot use the information for its own purposes or model training.

Looki may also create general wellness observations from content you choose to process, such as observations about exercise or eating habits. This is separate from the optional Apple Health or Health Connect integration. These observations are for general wellness and informational purposes only. They are not medical advice, a diagnosis, or treatment.

Questions to ask when a feature uses a provider

Before turning on a connected feature, consider these questions:

  1. What information does the feature need?
  2. Which provider helps make the feature work?
  3. What is the provider allowed to do with the information?
  4. What controls can you use to manage your personal information in Looki?

Looki uses service providers when they are needed to deliver or protect the service. We limit the information they receive and place restrictions on how they can use it.
