A wearable camera can help you save everyday moments without pulling out your phone. It can also capture personal conversations, daily routines, and the people around you. That makes it important to understand what Looki records, what stays on the device, what may be sent to the cloud, and what you can delete.
Looki L1 is an AI Life Memory Camera that captures moments hands-free and turns them into searchable memories, comics, and recaps. Content is stored on the device first. If you sync content or turn on a feature that needs cloud processing, Looki sends only the content needed to provide that feature. Your data is encrypted while it is being sent and while it is stored in Looki's cloud.

Different types of Looki data follow different paths. A copy stored on the Looki L1, content sent to an AI provider for temporary processing, and content saved to your Looki account do not all follow the same deletion timeline.
How your data moves through Looki
| Stage | What happens | What you control |
|---|---|---|
| Capture | Looki L1 can capture photos, video, audio, and related details in the mode you choose. | The Trust Light stays on while capture is active. System sounds provide cues for relevant capture actions. |
| Local storage | Captured content is stored on the Looki L1 first. | You can keep content on the device, delete it, or upload it. Older files may also be replaced as the device fills up. |
| Upload | Content moves through the Looki App when you sync it or turn on a feature that needs cloud processing. | You choose whether to sync content or enable the feature. Some features may upload the content they need automatically while they are turned on. |
| Cloud AI | Looki and its authorized AI providers process the content needed to provide the feature you requested. | You decide whether to use features that require cloud processing. |
| Storage and deletion | Device copies, temporary AI processing, account content, and generated content follow different retention rules. | You can manage eligible content through the Looki App and submit a privacy request when you need additional help. |
| Access | Depending on the feature, content may be available to review, save, export, or delete. | Looki's software controls let you manage the content connected to your account. |
This article focuses on media and memory features. Account details, purchases, device information, support messages, app activity, and other service data are covered separately in the Looki Privacy Policy.
What Looki L1 can capture
Depending on the mode or feature you use, Looki L1 may capture photos, short video clips, audio, timestamps, and other details that help organize your memories. Location can also be added through your paired phone if you give the Looki App permission to use it.
Looki L1 does not have its own GPS. If you turn off location permission, Looki's core recording, local media management, content upload, and general AI features will still work. Features that depend on location, such as precise place tags or location-based reminders, may be unavailable or less accurate. Looki does not collect location after the App has been closed or terminated.
Some information stays on the device. Other information is sent to the cloud when you sync it or use a feature that needs cloud processing. Because captured moments can reveal routines, locations, preferences, and personal relationships, each type of data needs to be handled according to how it is used.
Content starts on the device
Photos, video, and audio are stored on the Looki L1 first. The device has 32 GB of local storage. If you do not upload content, it can remain on the device until you delete it, reset the device, or it is replaced under the device's loop-recording rules.
You can manually upload content or turn on a feature that needs cloud processing. Some features may automatically upload the visual, audio, or contextual information they need while the feature is active. You make that choice when you turn on the feature, rather than approving each individual transfer.
After an upload is completed, the copy stored on the Looki L1 is scheduled to be deleted from the device 12 hours later. This applies only to the device copy. It does not mean that content saved or synced to your Looki account is deleted after 12 hours.

What happens in the cloud
Your data is encrypted while it is being sent and while it is stored in Looki's cloud. Access is strictly limited. When you use a cloud-based AI feature, Looki and its authorized AI providers may temporarily decrypt the content needed to make that feature work. Your content is used only to provide the feature you requested.
Looki currently uses AI services from OpenAI and Google, including Gemini, for certain content-understanding and content-generation features. Not every request is sent to every provider. The provider and content involved depend on the feature you use and the minimum information needed to make it work.
Looki does not allow these providers to use your personal content to train their general-purpose AI models. The production AI services currently used by Looki also have the applicable zero-training and zero-data-retention settings turned on.
Looki uses filtering systems designed to identify sensitive environments and stop certain content from being uploaded for cloud processing. This is one layer of protection. It does not replace the need to tell people when you are recording, get consent when required, or avoid recording in sensitive places.
Cloud processing helps Looki organize captured moments into memories, summaries, comics, Vlogs, and other features. Content you choose to save or sync, along with the content Looki creates for you, may remain in your account until you delete it or close your account.

Different data has different deletion timelines
There is no single deletion timer for all Looki data. The timeline depends on where the data is stored and how it is used.
- After an upload is completed, the copy stored on the Looki L1 is scheduled to be deleted from the device 12 hours later.
- Raw media sent to an authorized AI provider only for temporary processing is handled under the provider's applicable zero-data-retention settings.
- Photos, videos, or other content you choose to save or sync to your Looki account may remain there until you delete them or close your account.
- Moments, Memories, Journal entries, AI conversations, Vlogs, comics, summaries, and other content created for you may also remain in your account until you delete them or close your account.
Deleting original media, deleting a generated Memory or summary, and closing your account are different actions. Use the controls in the Looki App for the content you want to manage. You can also review the current Privacy Policy or contact Looki if you need help with a broader privacy request.
Privacy controls you can see and use
Looki provides several ways to understand when the device is active and manage your information:
- The Trust Light and system sounds indicate when Looki is capturing. The Trust Light cannot be turned off while normal capture continues.
- Turning the camera inward or covering it stops visual AI functions.
- The Looki App lets you review, manage, save, and delete eligible content.
- Sync and feature settings let you choose when certain cloud data paths are active.
- You can close your account or submit a privacy request for broader control over your personal information.
Your privacy rights depend on where you live. They may include the right to access, correct, delete, or transfer your information, withdraw consent, or ask Looki to limit certain processing. The current Privacy Policy explains which rights apply and how to submit a request.
Independent review and ongoing security work
Looki has completed a SOC 2 Type I audit. This independent audit reviewed how Looki's security controls were designed at a specific point in time.
Looki is also working toward SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001/27701. Its broader work includes GDPR alignment, CCPA/CPRA readiness, an assessment of safeguards for potential HIPAA-regulated use cases, and early documentation work related to EN 18031/RED. These programs cover different parts of security, privacy, and product compliance.
What to check before using an AI wearable camera
When reviewing an AI wearable camera, ask a few practical questions: What does it capture? What stays on the device? What is sent to the cloud? Who processes it? How long is each type of data kept? Which controls let you delete it?
With Looki L1, content starts on the device. Cloud processing begins when you sync content or turn on a feature that needs it. Encryption, access controls, AI provider restrictions, filtering, and deletion rules then apply based on how the content is used.
Before using Looki, review the Looki L1 product information, the Privacy Policy, and the permissions shown in your Looki App. Understanding what each setting does makes it easier to choose the features that fit your needs.
